PUKEKOHE.
(Continued.) By Pax. O Puke, spare me in thy wrath! Nor with fierce strokes assail me; Nor with the writhing lash of scorn In stinging strokes beflail me. If 1 have tripped across your path, And trod your tedn'rest corn, Believe me, life is full of ills Most surely must be borne. But Puke, 'tis a truth that they Who least for others feel, When they themselves in turn are pinched Most sure make biggest squeal. If that I did 'oerstep the truth In '.hose alleged libels, Which you apparently received Amazed, with bulging eye-balls. Or if I wronged you in despite With slander foul, or lie, Contritely I apologize, And dine on humble pie. And tender sorrows and regrets. If that my hissing dart Pierced plates in youi anatomy Not proof against the smart. Yet if by chance the cap should fit, Though hardly quite your fashion, And roughest hand should set it there
And fix it with a lash on - - But no, I won't say what I mean Least said is soonest mended, And to intensify offence Is not what I intended For Puke, we have all our faults, Some greater and some less, So let lis both now cry us quits, And tidy up this mess. For true it is deep in my heart, Fond love for you I cherish, And all ill-will betwixt us both Right glad would 1 see perish. I on tin outskirts love to stray
Among thy shad/ places, Where Nature in her rarest charms With lavish beauty graces. To climb thy green hill's swelling
breast. Where summer softly lingers Secure from autumn's chilling breath, Or winters icy lingers. For famed afar thy beauties are, And destined to grow greaterBut be it peace, or be it war, Good-bye, I'll see you later.
