I i The reported reduction in ordinary packet teas by 3d a pound was confirmed by Christchurch wholesale merchants the other day (says the Lyttelton Times). A well-known brand has already dropped from 3s 9d to 3s 6d. The manager of one est tablishment said the prices for good I teas were becoming firmer in Colombo, and he could see no signs of any further decrease. The cheap teas at present offering were not worth storage space. They were more like sand than, anything else. "Perhaps some of the" people who think that a merchant is always on velvet will be interested to know this," continued the wholesaler. "We bought our stocks when the rupee stood at 2s 3d instead or 2s, as it does now. That means that we have to face a loss of about threepence or fourpence on I every pound of tea in our warehouses J "at the present time." I
