FOOTBALL.

FRANKLIN RUGBY UNION COMPETITIONS.

SATURDAY'S MATCHES. ! (By "FAIR TRY.') j Results at a Glance: Senior: Puekkohe 18 v. Onewhero U. ( Bombay 14 v. Waiiiku 14, Junior: Pukekohe 21 v. Onewhero 3. Tuakau 8 v. Patumahoe 5. Waiuku forfeited to Bombay. The second roithd of the Franklin Rugby Union's competitions was advanced a further stage on Saturday in ideal weather conditions. As a result of the matches the positions of the teams in the respective grades remains unaltered. The Clevedon club is now practically assured of the senior championship, while the junior premiership now rests between Pukekohe (who are leading by one point) and Bombay. Present indications point to the final match between these two teams deciding the winners of the honours. "Fair Trv," who is indisposed, was unable to attend any of Saturday's matches, and relied upon a friend to supply the results, therefore I must apologise for not i giving his usual report of at least one match. My frjend informs me that from all accounts there were some brilliant exhibitions of Rugby, a vast improvement 'in many respects on form shown this season. The games were all fairly fast, the players evidently are now grasping the true meaning of the amended Rugby rules, but on the other hand the players are gaining form, which was sadly lacking in all respects in the first round. Now that a vast improvement in the play has been shown, a really good representative team could be selected.

THE SENIOR GAMES,

Pukekohe 10 v. Onewhero 6.

Onewhero seniors journeyed to Pukekohe to try conclusions with the home team. From the commencement both teams put plenty of dash into their pfay, but Pukekohe showed to advantage throughout, and left the field victors by 18 points to G. Tries for the winners were scored by Jim Blake, S. Marshall and J. Clarke, while H. Leighton landed three penalty goals. Lowry compiled the points for the losers. Mr. E. Pollock made an impartial and efficient referee. Bombay 14 v. Waiuku 14.

Bombay travelled to Waiuku, and a brilliant game was witnessed. Play throughout was fast and exciting. Eventually the game ended hi a draw. 14 all. Mr. A. Cornthwaito refereed. Tuakau 15 v. Mercer 3.

The Tuakau-Mercer match on Saturday was a fairly even game for the first spell, which ended 3 all, but the next spell was all in favour of Tuakau, which put on 12 points. Tries were scored by Pivott and Turner. Pivott kicked two penalty goals, smd W. Smeed one.

THE JUNIOR MATCHES.

Pukekohe 21 v. Onewhero 3.

The Pukekohe-Onewnero junior match took place at Onewhero in the presence of a fairly large attendance. From the kick-off Pukekohe attacked, and simply got all over the home team, which by the way, drew with the Pukekohe boys on the occasion of the first match between the teams played at Pukekohe. The visiting backs threw the ovfal about in a brilliant manner, and simply nonplussed the home team. Jim Adams phayed a sterling game, and was easily the best player on the ground. For the winners tries were scored by Jim Adams (3), Les Hart, Les Fisher (one each), while Nicholson and Jones kicked penalty goals. Mr. Joe Reynolds capably controlled* the whistle.

Tuakau 0 v. Patumahoe 5.

Patumahoe visited Tuakau, and after an even game suffered defeat by 8 points to 5. Mr. Finlay refereed. CHAMPIONSHIP LADDER.
