FRANKLIN COUNTY WORKS

ENGINEER S REPORT.

County Engineer J. F. McArthur /ft v ported as follows at yesterday's meeting of the Franklin County I'onmil:— Proposed New Roadi. An eiiyineprwg survey has been completed of the proposed new road leading from thfc "t-fcerata-Karaka Rd to the Helvetia estate, via Jamieson's and Schlaepfer's. The total length of the road is GUI - chains. The necessary land required to be taken is approximately 7 1 •> acres—s acres from Mr, Jamieson's property, and acres from Mr. Schlaepfer's property. The amount of compensa--1 iion has not yet been ascertained. The cost of construction of road, including .til mlverts, a 201't span bridge, clearing, and necessary fencing is estimated to be 1075. The steepest t rl 'ade on this line of road is 1 in 15. The accompanying tracing shows a Sri. posed road from the end of Mclaughton's Road on the Aka Aka . aw.imp connecting up with a road \, . Wniuku via Hull's. A rough survey has been made of thiji road, and a 1 in 13 grade obtained. The total distance is 30 chains 84 links. The area required to be taken totals 3 acres 0 roods 21 perches. The proposed road passes through sections "28 and 29, blk iii., V Maioro S.D., taking 2 acres 2 roods 15 perches from section- No. 29, and 0 acres 2 roods 6 perches from2 section 28. I would recommend your council to j tai e the necessary steps to legalise t this road. The cost of construction j would not be heavy, and could be j done at a reasonable cost.

A rough survey has also been made ol the proposed road from Aka Aka to Waiuku via Hulls, but owing to faulty information regarding survey data I am unable to report fully on this route at the present time. 1 may state, however, a good grade can be obtained through Mr. Hull's r , property to connect up with the ex..touting' road leading to Waiuku. Yf A petition dated May 1, 1920, was deceived by your council from a number of settlers in the Mauku Riding, asking that a new road be opened fftom the main Patumahoe.Pukekohe Road at entrance to the Patumahoe lailway station to Hunter's Road, Bissing through the properties of r. J. Hem-j', Mr. George Wright, and Mr. James Hunter. The distance i* about one mile. The approximate cost of construction, metalling, fencing, and compensation, is t2BEu If the settlers interested are prepared to form a special rating area us security for a loan sjifiicient t i meet the above expenditu'e, I wuld suggest that your council take the mutter in hand and construct the Ljtoad when the loan montu is avail-j Sable. | T Government Grants.
