PAPAKURA TENNIS CLUB

ANNUAL BALL. Not since the Queen Carnival Ball in 1918 has such a brilliant function taken place, as was the ball* arranged by the committee of the Tennis Club'to assist in raising funds for their new asphalt courts soon to be laid down on the Village Green. Visitors from Ramarama, Drury, Karaka, Papatoetoe, Manurewa, Alfriston, Ardmore, and Opaheke were present, and the long string of motor-cars outside the brilliantly-lighted hall gave the street quite an imposing appearance. The specially-prepared floor of the picture theatre, and the beautiful music provided by Messrs. Meredith's Orchestra, made dancing highly enjoyable, while the M's.C., Messrs Tuehy and Gerrand, saw that everyone had partners. Much of the success of the entertainment is due to the zeal and enthusiasm of Mr. R. K. Willis, who carried out the secretarial duties in a highly satisfactory manner, and to the energetic committee and their helpers who worked so assiduously both before and during the function.

The stage was arranged as a draw-ing-room i'or the occupation of chaperons, and the table decorations, so highly pleasing, were arranged by Mrs. P. A. Gerrand. A beautiful supper was provided in the anterooms, and here a bevy of young ladies, assisted by those ever-willing workers, Mcsdames Jones, McLennan, J. R. Wilson, and Willis (2), did all in their power to attend to the comfort of the guests.

In addition to the programme of 2<! dances, extras were kindly supplied by Mrs. N. Walters, Misses Rea, MacKinnon, Bradley, and Mrs. Fawcett.

Manv handsome dresses were worn, amongst which we mention the following (apologies to those omitted): Misses Watson (handsome eveningdress). Finlayson (mauve silk), Rhind (while silk), Percy (\ieux rose georgette), J l '. Grant (purple velvet, grey I annii-rs).* K. Wilson (black georecLi<•. scarlet necklace), Wilson (apricot crepe de chine, net overdress), McLennan (white silk), 0. McLennan (pale blue silk), Walker (pink satin), MacKinnon (brown crepe de chine, ninon bodice). Grant (lavender satin, frilled lavender net), Brady (llax blue brocade, ninon sleeves), N. Goodfellow (lemon satin, georgette overdress). M. Goodfellow (cream net), Burnside (cream net overdress), Campbell ('J) (canary-coloured crepe de chine). Spence (lemon-coloured silk, black velvet strapping), Johnson (cream satin nel). Mrs. Gerrand (crimson velvet), Mrs. Jas. Walker (bridal dress, cream satin). It is understood that the club funds will benefit by the function to the extent of some £-0.
