FRANKLIN RACING CLUB
PROPOSITION IN FARMING. Though there is some anxiety felt as to the prospects of the Franklin Racing Club's chances of obtaining a totalisator permit, the committee is not letting the grass grow under its feet. The club has been registered under the Incorporated Societies' Act, 1908, which carries certain advantages which will be made known to members when they receive their copies of the rules. An application for a permit has b'.'en made to the Minister for Internal Affairs, and a deputation from the club will attend the racing conference in Wellington next week with a view to furthering the applicatk n. Good progress has been made with the grounds secured for a course. The house thereon and ;ive acres of land have been let at a satisfactory rental, and the committee is ruining the rest of the land as a fa-m, on somewhat novel lines. Heiiers arc being grazed, which will lie sold as they are about to come into profit. The club is asking farmers to donate heifers for next year, and already sixty have been promised, so that the farm should prove a vtv lucrative concern. Notice of the annual general meeting, to be held on Monday. Aug ist 2, is advertised, together with •he • business to be transacted.
