THE WAIKATO RIVER
ANO RECENT RAINS. A Mercer resident states that owing to the recent rains the Waikato River rose eight feet above summer level, and is receding at the rate of four to six inches a day, which, it is claimed, is quicker clearance than was ever known before. At its highest, the flood was stil 4ft 6ln nelow the highest flood mark.
