THE TREATY OF PEACE
COPY AT "TIMES" OFFICE. A newspaper office receives many official documents, most of them as - dry as the mummies in the tombs of Egypt, but a volume of more than ordinary interest was received at the "Times" Office a few days ago. This work, forwarded with the compliments of the Prime Minister, is a copy of "The Treaty of Peace," between the Allied and Associated powers and Germany; also the protocol thereto, containing the agreement lespecting the military occupation of the territories of the Rhine rnd the treaty between France ami Great Britain, whereby Great Biitaiu pgrees to protect France in the event of cgressive action by Germany. The treaty was signed at Versailles on June 28, 1919. Vei y fine maps accompany the volume. Subsidiary to the great historical interest of the document are the fa«rimilie signatures of the represcn--wtives of the- powers on both sides. 'Amon« well-known names in the order and style in which the signatures | appear are those of Woodrow Wil-i son, Robert Lansing, Wm. House fAmerica), D. L'oyd jeorge. A. Boncir Law, Milner, A. J. Balfour, Georpe H. Barnes (Great Britain), W. M. Hughes, Joseph Cook (Australia), Louis Botha, W. Smuts (South Africa) W. F. Massey (New Zealand), and the corresponding plenipoter.
tiaries of France and Germany. Many of the signatures denote a shaky hand, as though the signatories were painfully aware of their vast responsibilities. That of our own Prime Minister is not written with his usual firmness. The copy of the treaty, which is printed in both 3 and English, may be seen at the "Times" Office.
