The following report was submitted to the Manukau Couniy Council on Tuesday --taji the county engineer (Mr. W. J. Lopdell), and adopted:— Mangere Riding.—The balance of y bitumen has arrived, and is now " stocked at Mangere, a total of 918 barrels. Mr. F. J. Holloway waited upon our chairman and myself re the adjustment of charges, and after fully explaining the position, left the matter for the council to further consider. Favona Road Bridge Approaches.— The wire fences along the embankment have been repaired, and are now in good order. General maintenance has been filried out on Coronation, alms ley, Kirkbridge and Robertson Roads, The Reo lorry is engaged hauling scoria for patching. Now that the loan money is available, I would recommend that Mr. Buckthought be given notice tO CCwf plete the stone contrtefc. Re the water supply at M&hgere . # crossing.—This matter has been held over during the ngmth. Pakuranga Riding—l have not been able to procure the shell for Howick main road. The company ir v y very busy at the present tin.e, hav- 1 ing more orders, than it can fulfil. Papakura Riding.—Ranfurly Road: Owing to the amount Q{,\wet weather, the contractors havii been unable to complete the trimpiing up of this road, which is otherwise finished.
Redoubt Road Lean.—ln connection with this loan, it has been necessary to define an area according to the amount of land included in each property, and for this purpose we, with thp clerk, made the necessary survey. Boundary Road with East Tamaki is in a very bad state. The distance is about 100 chains, requiring 500 yds of metal to put it in good order, the approximate cost being £325. The upper portion of the road requires t about 25 cubic yards. This being the only outlet for the Redoubt settlers, the work is urgent. I would estimate the upkeep *of Boundary Road at about -.50 per annum. Cr. Reid and I made an inspection of the road from McLachlan's Quarry to Brown's Road, and find, owing ti> the mature of the formation, if will never be fit for anything but a stock route. The cost of making • VOtd would be prohibitive. w Hill's Road.—We inspected rthfa . toad, and find that the gorse has not been cleaned up. I recommend that we put a man on to grub the gorse from end to end, and charge Settlers for same. Wallace's proposed road has been left over to suit Mr. Wallace's convenience. Brookby-Clevedon Road.—further slips have taken place, and are being cleared off. Great South Road—The culvert at Wiri is completed. ' Cr. Waters and I made a tour of inspection of afethe county roads in his riding. Estfijates for the coming season's work »l! be prepared as early as possible. Depot.—Crushing of metal for maintenance, and the shed nas been in progress during the, month. Several roads have been . patched. The building is progressing steadily. The hopper has arrived from Collett and Son, Dannevirke, ;ind when set up will be a great convenience. The grader is cleaning watertables from Papakura to Clevedon.
