TOWN HALL SITE
A NEW PROPOSITION.
The debatable question of a town hall site • was again discussed at a meeting of the Pukekohe Borough Council on Wednesday night. The Mayor (Mr. C. K. Lawrie) said that, as previously arranged, he had approached Mr. Wm. Roulston, asking 'him if he would make his offer of his tennis courts and private park to the borough unconditionally, and not with the stipulation that 'the land must be used in' as a town hall sito. The upshot of this interview was that Mr. Rop'ston offered,to give the park sito used as the council thought provided that the council boug acre of land from him, situated {tear the bowling green, for a town hall site, the cost of this acre to be £I2OO.
After brief discussion on the question, the Finance Committee was deputed to wai't on Mr. J. KennoUy, asking if he would sell the council another three-quarters of an acre alongside the present gift site. In Ihe everft of Mr. Kennelly refusing, the council would accept Mr, Wm. Rouiston's offer that, provided his acre ol' land near the bowling green was bought by the council, for £I2OO, he would give the park site f iee to the town, irrespective of whalt use it v as put to. The Mayor moved notice of motion that the nvnute on the book stating that a poll be taken on the question of a town hall site be rescinded. A special meeting in regard to the above will be held nex't Wednesday night.
We understand that Mr. Kennelly does not wish to part with the further three-quarters of an acre required. and that therefore Mr. Roulaton's site wilk.be 'accepted.
