PROPOSED NEW BRIDGE.
KING STREET CROSSING. j The Pukekohe Borough Council's consulting engineer (Mr. D. W. McArthur) wrote as follows, in a letter received on Wednesday night, in -regard to the proposed new b Idge over the railway opposite lung Street:— "I interviewed the railway engineer in regard to the above, and he has made notes for presentation to his headquarters. "I may also say that he produced correspondence re this d ted 1911 and 1912, which showed 'hat the bridge was offered to be built across the railway at this poiiv: by the Department, provided the ihen town board would pay £4OO, the difference in cost between the pre :ent bridge and the proposal in que:- ion. "I think, under these conditions, it is unlikely the Department will accede to voui< request, unless the Borough offers a contribution towards 'the work required. "There is some vacant lttilway !and across the railway, opposite the end of King Street, which is open for lease, and 1 would suggest that th" Borough ask the Department t > deter the letting of this until the iuesti|j«R of the new bridge is finally setCr. D. R. Hamilton promptly movxhe adoption of the suggestion : bout the lease.-—Carried. Cr* J. Patterson moved 'that the deck write to the Minister for Uai!<av|£s asking'-twhat further steps hud been taken in -the matter. He i rged that the council must keep the matter moving briskly if they hop- d to Micceed.
