PAPAKURA TOWN BOARD
A meeting of the Papakuife Town Board was held on Monday, the 17th inst. Messrs C. D. McLennan. J. Rea. S. Evans. A. Wallis. T. D. Campbell and the clerk (A. L. Cooper) were present. Mr. D. W. Jones was unable to attend owing to being unwell, and sent his apology for not being able to be present at the meeting. Mr. E. D. McLennan was elected acting-chairman until such times as Dr. Brookfield is able to resume his duties.
The acting-chairman addressed the meeting with reference to the sad loss sustained by Mr. H. and Mrs Black in the death of their son, who was accidentally killed at Frankton Junction, and also with reference to the death of Mn. Geissler. who was for a number of years clerk of the board. As an expression of sympathy the board stood in silence. It was decided to convey to Dr. Brookfield the sympathy of the board for the illness that he is suffering from, and the hope for his speedy recovery. Mn. Lockie Gannon (engineer to the board attended the meeting and submitted ajscheme for drainage under Queen Street. He also dealt with the matter of the water scheme that Papakura proposes to inst.al. In accordance .with his advice the board decided to adopt the day-lab-our system of getting the work done, except in such 'cases as-9ball be advised by the engineer.
