RAGLAN COUNTY COUNCIL
REGULAR MEETING. The Raglan Counjty Council ret at the Courthouse (Raglan) on Wednesday. Cr. C. Johnstone ocupied the chair. All members were present, with the exception of Cr. Ottway. Cr. E. C. Frost (Tuakau) requested the council to put a road through certain closed sections on One'-iher" Hill, which, he was prepared to purchase from the council. The engineer was instructed to prepare a report on the matter.
The treasurer reported on the land fund accounts as follows:—Whangape £54 15s sd, Pukemiro £272 Os "d. Waingaro £Bl 6s Id. Pukekawa £36 17s lid. Karioi £l9 12s. Whaingaroa £sl Is Bd. Pirongia £146 6s 6d. Karamii £240 15s 2d. The bank accounts showed the county fund alt £6345 l Js 4d, the land fund at £6797, and the Pu-kekawa-Whangape loan (£17,000 at fixed deposit) £19,928 7s lOd. Onewhero £IBO. Pukekawa £385. ENGINEER'S REPORT.
Reporting on work done d>rinc the past month the county engineer (Mi'. Civil) stated:— Port Waikato Ridiny.
Port Waikato to Tuakau Bridge Ru —Taylor and party have practically completed the seven-mile section, which completes the road to Afiuir's la/ge swamp. Luckens and Godfrey have completed Contract No. 416 for forming some 60 chains of swamp road, and have their contract No. 428 for forming some 25 chains of swamp road nearly finished. This completes all the earthworks from the 4y 2 to 10-mile section, and whe ntw osmal lbridges and two totara bridge culverts have been erected the road will be open for traffic, which will connect Kohunga with Tuakau by the rive- road. All the timber has been ordered for the bridges and culverts on the 11-mile section, and most of it ha? been delivered on to the sites. Timbefi" for bridges and culverts has been delivered to Dwen's l-ndiw for the 10-mile section.
Pipes for the 10, 11 and 12 mile sections have been ordered and arrangements made for them to be de livened to Dwen's, Whisky's and Tauraunganui landings. Luckens and Godfrey expect to start within a fortnight on contract No. 415 for forming som« 35 chains of siding at Tauraunganui. Onewhero Riding.
Turner's Junction to Watson's Gate Grant £2ooo—l received a letter from the Public Work Department, which is placed before this meeting. Hamilton's Deviation— I'cKuyden has finished his contract for carting metal. This completes the metalling of the deviation.
Kaipo Flat Road.—Some 10 chains of this road have been metalled. Ponganui Road.—The timber fc repairing the bridges on this ro:.d has been ordered.
Repairs have been carried < ;.t oi various roads in the riding. Pukekawa Riding.
Pukekawa to Bregmen's Landing.--Some one and a-half miles of this road has been widened and straightened, the pipes carted and colverts laid.
The next principal work to be done in the county is the i'ukekawa-Wha-ngape loan works. So far on'y a portion of the work has been laid oft, and the matter of quarries, considered. Surfacework has been carried out on various roads.
Whangape Riding.
Tuakau Bridge to Waingau Road. —MadiW has completed his omitracV for carting, some 271 cubic yards of metal from Sorby s qnany, and 19" cubic yards from the Awaroa landing quarry on to the road. M. Torpey and parity have completed some one and a-half miles of earthworks, straightening and widening the road known 3s "Sorby's Section," and five 9in culvert? have been laid. Pukekawa to Bregmen s Landing. - Thomson and Taumata have then contract for widening Taumata's cutting practically oompieied. Repairs have been done to various roads, including the sanding jf Whangape hill in order to improve matters this winter, as *heie »s no chance of metalling sunt until next season.
