FRANKLIN WINTER SNOW

Prospects for success briqht

* I %, EXCELLENT ENTRIES. Ivv

P«sesen»t indications point to the fliaUKural .Winter Show to be held fcn Wednesday,, Thursday, Friday and jSaturday of next week under the (juspices of the Franklin A. and P. Society being an unqualified success. When the suggestion of a winter was brought under the notice <Jf the public several queried the idea, but since then the matter'has been looked upon from an entirely different aspect. It was at first thought that the promoters would have a hsrd battle to fight in .obtaining materials by which structures to house the numerous exhibits. That the society /was "up against it" all aie aware, but thanks the farsightedness of the executive an order was placed for a sufficient supply of corurgated iron, and fortunately the order was fulfilled at a price which is unheard of to-day. apid arrangements were made to proceed witberection of the build-' intt*g*fhe-fiocietv with the question of finance, "and here again fortune smiled on the society and the ready cash was forthcoming. The buildings were commenced, and to-day aic nearing completion. There are several small matters that require to be completed ,but these will be attended to while the show is in progress. So far so good. Then 'the executive had an anxious time wondering whether the entries would come up to expectations. Agairi the rays of sunshine shorte down on the society, as they had never done before, and We are able to slate the entries excepted all expectations.'' To give our rdpei's an idea of the entries, there Igrte over 100 alone in roots. The dog'and poultry classes, the entires for which constitute r. record for Pukekohe. One building will be for machinery, and already there has baton a keen (temand for space. TSgfc.other buildttifes will be , utilised {<&> other classes. , * r The Lighting.

"If you would see Melrose aright, Go visit it by the pale moonlight." ,; Such is ScotJt's advice for viewing ftelfose Abbey. That verse might be changed to read, "If -you wooltf see the Wintuu Show aright, go visit it by the grand electric light." This is our advice for viewing the Winter Show. The details for lighting the buildings and grounds aie magnificent, and never before in the history of Pukekohe has such an electrical display been seen by the public'. Arrangements have been made to obtain the festoons that assisted to elaborately decorate the Auckland Town Hall on the occasion of H.R.H. the Prince of Wales' visit to the Queen City. These festoons will be arranged on the outside of the buildings. Thii sight alone will be worjji seeing. The merry-go-tiouncls and canvass town, outside, will also be briliantly lighted. Muiic.
