MANUREWA TOWN BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING.

At the last ordinary meeting of the Manurewa Town Board there '.were present: The chairman (Mr. C. H. Lupton), and Messrs G. Coxhead, G. Smith, E. S. Pegler, F. W. Wood. E. J. Butterworth, T. J. Corin and the clerk. Scoria on Railway Track.-The chairman reported having interviewed the engineer, and was awaiting a further interview with Mr. Osborne to decide on this matter. . Deputation re Metal.—The chairman reported having interviewed the gaol authorities along with Mr. MeLennan of the Papakura Town Board, and was informed that 2in metal could be supplied if ordered in sufficient quantities. The price to local bodies was not raised, as notified by circular. Further, the gaol cduld supply excellent material for foundation work at 2s 9d per yard. School.—The public hall would be occupied as a school from May 1. The chairman asked leave to postpone the discussion on his notice of motion re extending the town district and acquiring land for a cemetery and post office. The final position herein was that the Department was preparing fresh plans with a corner entrance. War Trophies.—The chairman leported having taken steps to have Manurewa included in the distribution of war trophies. Wai* Memorial.—A letter was read from Mr. Spedding offering £SO towards a pavilion if built on the land offered by him to the board. On the recommendation of the chairman it was decided to leave to him and the secretary the calling of a meeting of the War Memorial Committee. Sale of Public Hall.—lt was agreed to adjourn the discussion on this matter pending Mr. Butterworth obtaining the opinion of his lawyer, and to obtain the opinion of an independent lawyer. Noxious Weeds.—Gorse having been gazetted a noxious weed it was decided to ask the inspector to put the law in motion in the town district . Loan Matters —The State Advances Office having refused to lend this money on the ground that it was not for new work, the chainnan stated that he would ask Mr. Massey's asassistance in this matter as the application of the Papakura Town Board for practically similar work had been granted. Street Lighting.—A discussion as to the practicability of lighting from the new theatre plant took place, and it was decided to ascertain the cost of the necessary wiring and io await the decision of Mr. Osborne as to the procuring of a storage battery. Railway Service.—Agi'eed that owing to losses at the goods-shed application be made to have a stationmaster in charge at Manurewa. Mr Pegler stated that he was informed that the volume of goods traffic at Manurewa exceeded that of Papatoetoe, an argument in favour of the application. It was further agreed to work with Papakura / to have the Papatoetoe service extended to Papakura. Adjustment with County Council. —Decided to ask the council for an interview for this purpose. Right of Way on Claude Road.— The Works Committee was ed to offer up to £3O for the piece* of land owned by Basley's estate on Claude Road. Hedges.—Resolved that the Works Committee take steps to have all live hedges in the district cut back to the boundary line. By-laws.—Resolved that the clerk ask the Papakura Board for the earliest date on which the two boards could meet to go into this matter. Building Permits.—Resolved to fublicly notify persons intending to uild that plan and specification be submitted and a permit obtained before proceeding with the erection of any building. Ten per cent, penalty would be added to all rates unpaid at the expiration of six months, and 14 days from the demand thereof. Accounts totalling £59 2s lid were passed for payment.
