The Times. Published on Tuesday and Friday Afternoons. Motto: Public service. TUESDAY, APRIL 20, 1920. SCHOOL COMMITTEE ELECTIONS.

The school committee elections for the Auckland Education Board District will take place on Monday week, May 3, and we trust that the householders will take greater interest in the selection of committees than was the case last year. Parodoxical as it may seem, everyone realises that education and the environment and supervision of schools are very important matters, but few take sufficient active interest to ensure proper representation. One way and another, school matters at Pukekohe have been productive of a great deal of grumbling, but the grousers have neither the interest nor the energy to roll up at a householders' meeting,, much less the public spirit to offer their services. At Pukekohe last yeer there were not even enough persons prepeiit at the householders' meeting to form a committee even if all present had been nominated and elected. Surely this is a disgraceful state of affairs! The school committee at Pukekohe has a dual purpose, one being to attend to matters in connexion with the primary school and the other to act in a similar capacity in respect to the technical school classes. With the erection of the new Franklin Technical High School its duties will be sensibly increased and its responsibilities made greater. For the sake of the scholars and for the good of Franklin, we hope there will be a large number present on Monday night week, May 3.
