NEWSPAPER BURDENS

EMPLOYERS AND EMPLOYEES. WHAT OF THE FUTURE? The following resolution has teen unanimously passed at a meeting of the Staffordshire and Warwickshire Newspaper Society:— "That the attention of the Council of the Newspaper Society be called to the fact that the pressure placed upon newspaper proprietors for continual and continued increases of salaries and wages is having a very deleterious effect upon the prospects of the employees concerned. All security of tenure is vanishing, r.nd the demands have already reached a stage at which proprietors must be faced with a ruthless reduction of staffs and consequent increase of unemployment, in which the elderly and all but the most efficient must first suffer." There is reason to believe that New Zealand newspaper proprietors have come to a similar conclusion.
