House and I inspected Robertson Road in connection with Mr. Selby's complaint, and have to-report that as *he settler in question has left the district, there is no further complaint. Re the culvert on McKeir/ie Road. After" a inspection we have to report that as the said culvert has carried the water for years we can see no reason why it will not continue to do so if the outlet is kept clean. Re the water supply extension. As no word has been received from the •Otahuhu Borough Council this mat ter has been allowed to stand over. I have been instructed by the PubWorks Department to furnish Hans and specifications for >all the \roads concerned in the Mangere loan. ' Pakuifanga Riding.-As the plant for-prying out the £4OO Government grant contract on the Howkk main road is not yet to hand it will be advisable to have this job stand over until it arrives. It will be neecssary, however, to maintain the road during the winter. The cheapest way will be to order a scow load of shingle to use with the sco.ia available in this riding. Win' Station Road.—l have inspected this road, and would recommend that a loan be raised lot forming and metalling the 55 chains of load which is a chain in width. To spend much on the present road fts it is constructed would *be only ' n waste of money, as ifcrlt poorly graded, and on one side oj£tha roadway Cr. Reed and I inspected the culvert on Weymouth Road," and recommend that the existing culvert, consisting of two 12in pipes, be lift .ed, and a 2ft culvert put in at a ibWer level. The grader has completed the grading on the Puhi Nui Road, also the Home Road. Plans have been pre pared for the proposed housing shed at the depot and will he laid on the table for consideration. The concrete mixer has arrived, and has been given a trial, which, proved satisfactory. Turnnga Riding—Surfaceman Mills has been working on' the Mungaroa Saddle most of the month cleaning watertables, etc. The proceed to this riding as driver is obtained. Mr. Goodmaivhas started the homestead bridge, and is •proceeding with the foundations. Wairoa Riding.-The Ore re .Road contract is proceeding very slowly. The council's staff have completed the contract on the Mataitni Road. A claim will be made on the Department as early as possible. A set of 2ft pipes have been put in, in front of Mr. Brown's property. Foreman Peterson has opened un the pit in Mr Brandson's poperty. Maintenance is being carted out on the Ness Valley Road. The gvader has completed the grading of Howling's line, A»:,et of 12in nines is required at tBI upper end of the road. Mr. Amiss has been along the road at Ardmore to Mi'. McLaren's, and reports that he is afraid to use the tractor and grader on the road, as ' there is no place to turn. General. -During the month the crown shaft of the Leo lorry biolce, and is being repaired by Price and Co.. Auckland. L. Roulton, tractor driver, left us on the 2nd of this month. His place so far has not been filled. 1 am bringing down r separate report on the wages question. Building permits have beer granted to the value of E6348.
