NOXIOUS WEEDS.
Sir,—l would like to pen a few words in condemnation of the' disgraceful growth of blackberries on the beautiful fertile Aka Aka swamp lands. I think it is high time thV matter was taken up by the local farmers, and also by those in authority over the Noxious- Weeds Act, %o compel men to eradicate" ihj&rr*:- I don't consider they deserve "farmer," as a farmer, as a rule, on splendid level land that will carry a milk cow to the ace and a-haff without any manure, could not rest until he had them eradicated. On some of the farms there are acres and acre* of blackberry patches, the height of a house, that are never touched, but allowed to seed every year for the birds to consume and carry the seed for" miles. If these farmers have not go enough in them to grub and get rid of the weeds, they should at least be made to keep them out suflicienth often to keep the berries frsm being carried by birds on to clean farms. In conclusion I am sorry to state our own Country Council are one of the biggest—if not the biggest—offenders, as they own a quarry reserve in the centre of the swamp that is simply a disgrace. A SUFFERER.
