A social under the auspices of the Pukekohe East Tennis Club will be held on Tuesday, April 20—See ad\t. notice in reference to the proposed alteration of riding boundaries is published to-day by the Franklin County Council. The annual general meeting of the Pukekohe branch of the Farmers' Union will be held in the Borough Council Chambei/s on Friday evening The Pukekohe Methodist Sunday School will celebrate its 38th anniversary next Sunday. Also, a welcome will be tendered to the new minister, the Rev. Olphert, and family. Particulars are advertised. Without wishing to imply that the farmer is addicted to the use of lurid language to a greater degree than nue people of other callings under exasperating circumstances, yet one may hazard a guess that "all's blue" when the man on the land can no longer defer the obnoxious task of making out his returns fqc income-tax purposes. Mr. Chas. M. Osbourne, of Tuakau, offers to relieve the farmers of Tuakau district of this irksome business, as will be noted by an advertisement in to-day's "Times." Influenza in a mild form is prevalent in Auckland, among those indisposed being the late clerk to Manukau County Council, Mr. Alex Bell, and his successor, Mr. Edgar Ash 1 croft. By Reason of their indisposition a farewell function to Mr. Bell, arranged to have taken place last evening, was postponed indefinitely. The monthly meeting of Manukau County Council convened for to-day was also adjourned. Several of the members will attend for the purpose of passing a number of accounts.

"We cannot supply a foot of kauri just now," said a member of one of the leading local timber and milling funis to a Wellington reporter on Tuesday, "and, further, we nave no idea when we shall be able to accept orders again." The reporter was shown a letter received by the firm, in which- the managing director of a big Auckland milling concern had written: "We are at the present time out of kauri logs. We are expecting logs in about a month's time, but unfortunately we have several months' arrears of orders to cut."
