TUAKAU ATHLETIC SPORTS

A SUCCESSFUL MEETING,

The first annual sports, held under the auspices of the Tuakau Athletic and Sports Club, postponed from March 27 owing to boisterous weather, eventuated at Tuakau on Saturday in grounds kindly lent for the occasion by Mrs S. J. Craig. The grounds are ideal for such a meeting, but we understand it has changed hands, and that the club will have to seek another suitable ground for fututte meetings. This is regrettable, in view of the fact of the ground being suitable for sports and football purposes. The club was fayoured with brilliant weather, and the' public took advantage of the day, and attended in large numbers from all the surrounding districts. The energetic officials, with Mr. Dynes Fulton (piiesident) and Messrs A. H. Tapper and H. D. Abbott (joint secretaries), had elaborate artangements completed, and the sports passed off successfully, thanks to the assiduous manner in which they worked. There were quite a number of side shows on the ground, which added to the pleasant day's outing. Proceedings were considerably cnlivend by the piesence of the Ponsonby Boys' Drum and Fife Band, which contributed a number of musical selections. Two Highland pipers from Auckland also rendered selections on the bagpipes, which were

greatly appreciated. The judges for the sports events were Messrs W. Barnaby and A. Smeed, while Mr. J. Pirret officiat-
