MONTHLY MEETING, The ordinary monthly meeting of j the Tuakau Town Board was held on i Tuesday night, when there were procent:' Messrs Dynes Fulton (chairman), R. G. Geraghty, W. Barnaby, Geo. S. Lapwood, Jas Mungall and Chas. Finch, together with the (Mr. A. H. Tapper). Letter of Thanks. "The Franklin A. and P. Society wrote thanking the board for the use of flags during the show.—Received. Entrance Wanted. Mr. J. Bovill requested the board to give him an entrance, bv steps, to his property opposite Mr. Morgan's in George Street, through the previous entrance having been damaged by the formation of the street. "The chairman said there never was an entrance to the property, and ho did not think Mr Bovill was entitled to an entrance made by -the hoard. If he had an entrance the board would willingly grant one. The chairman moved that Mr. Bovill he notified that as there was no entrance to
his property previous to the reconstruction of George Street, the board could not see its way clear t>>
put in an entrance. Mr. Barnaby seconded the eha'rman's motion. Mr. Mungall moved that the board provide steps similar to those given to Mr. Morgan. The motion lapsed for want of a seconder. It was pointed out that Mr Morgan had an entrance previous to the regrading of George Street. The chairman's motion was carried. Mr. Mungall dissenting. Metal Chips Wanted.
Mr. T. C. Self applied for about eight yards of metal chips. The clerk was instructed to reply stating that chips would be supplied as soon as the board could spare some. Claim for Compensation. At the last meeting of the board, the chairman and Messrs Pirret and Lapwood were delegated to look into the matter of the claim oT Mr. Charles Dromgool, reported in a previous issue of the "Times." The chairman said the committee had looked into the matter and hud found that Mr. Dromgool's property had not been jJamaged. He had not, previous to the regrading of George Street, had an entrance, nor had he used an entrance during his time. As a matter of fact the reconstruction of the street had greatly enhanced the value of Mr Dromgool's property. The committee had recommended that the clerk be instructed to write to Mr. Dromgool and state that the board disclaims any liability in the matter of his sections fronting George Street. Mr. Mungall said lie thought the matter should be placed in the hards of the Municipal Association's solicitor for an opinion. He moved that the claim be forwarded, and that the clerk, chairman and himself be appointed to give full details of ihe case. I The motion lapsed for want of a seconder.
Mr. Finch moved that the recommendation of the sub-committee be adopted. The motion was carried, Mr. Mungall dissenting.
Repairs to Fla<|s
Mr. Geraghtv drew the board's attention to the fact that several of the hoard's flags required repairing, lie thought the rats had been damaging them, and suggested that a tfn "trunk be'obtained to preserve them. The chairman pointed out that there were several holes in the flags, but rats had not been the cause. Several had small holes in the corner due to moths, but these were there prior to the board acquiring 'ihe bunting. The clerk agreed to have the holes mo tided, and intimated that lie would take good care of the flags. Railway Matters. The clerk was instructed to write to the District Engineer of New Zealand Railways pointing out that the general manager had promised to visit Tuakau railway matters. and ask if he had any idea of the date of the visit, as the hoard was anxious to proceed with the work' on the en-lorn side of the railway station.
