PUKEKOHE V. NEWMARKET RAILWAY,

LATTER VICTORIOUS BY 29 RUNS

On Easter Saturday a cricket team representing the Newmarket Railway Workshops journeyed to Pukekohe to meet the home eleven. Ideal weather prevailed, and a most pleasant day was spent. Pukekohe won the toss and sent Railway to wickets, the latter compiling 03 runs before being disposed of. The chief contributors were V. Williams (19), and H. McCormac (11). Bowling for Pukekohe A. Cornthwaite took eight wickets for 22 runs, including the hat trick. He took four wickets with four consecutive balls. Pukekohe replied with only 31, S. Fitness making 25 not out. He played a careful innings, and hit two sixers and two fours. Nine of the team were out for no runs. The bowlers were M. Williams, who took five wickets for 1 run, and H. McGormac, who captured six wickets, including the hat trick. In their second innings Railway made 112, H. McCormac (25), Bodden (21), Nairn (19) and M. Williams (16) being the double figure scorers. Requiring 145 runs to win Pukekohe responded with 115 rails, those reaching double figure scores being D. Blake (28), 11. Schlaepfer (23), J. Harriman (not out, 14), F. Hewitt (12) and S. Fitness (11). On a two innings match Railway won by 29 riins.
