BOROUGH LOAN PROPOSAL

A poll of the ratepayers in the I'uk.'kolv Borough was token on Wednesday on a proposal to raise a loan of »:M,ihiii for various works will in t'ic !orough, as previously detail-, d in Hi l "Times." The proposal was carried by 69 votes. There was not a i real deal of interest taken by the majority of ratepayers, judging by the polling", which was exceptionally low, as out of a total of 582 ratepayers on the roll, only 2-">«: recorded their vote, 332 refraining fi-oi i acting within their rights, but now the proposal is carried they will be able to share in the benefits. The voting was as follows: For the proposal .. J"7 Against the proposal .. 88 Informal .. .. 5 Majority for proposal 69 The returning" officer, Mr. J. V Desne, assisted by Mr. F. E. Sirftrson. had the result posted most eyped tiously, and long before eight o'clock the result was widely known.
