PUKEKOHE FOOTBALL CLUB
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual general meeting of the Pukekohe Football Club was held in the Borough Council Chambers on Friday night, when Mr. S. Marshall presided over an attendant of 21 members. Annual Report anil Balance Sheet. The annual report and balance sheet, as presented by the secretary, Mr. F. H. Hewitt, was read as follows, and adopted on the motion ot Messrs. C. Wilson and A. Barber. It is with veiy great pleasure that T present my first annual report as secretary of'the Pukekohe Football Club for the season 1919. You will recollect that (luring tlie war period Pukekohe, in common with other places, practically abandoned football for the term, and it was in 191 f) that our national game was resurrected. Owing to the fact that hardly a family escaped bereavement through members of the family making the supreme sacrifice, together with the fact that a number of players were on active service, players did not come forward as readily as was anticipated at the commencement, but towards the end of the season, when the majority of the men had returned from the war, the position had changed for the better.
From the commencement of the fixtures the club made a bold bid for victory, and it was only in the concluding matches that the senior fifteen was beaten for the Armstrong Victory Cup, a trophy presented to the Franklin Rugby Union by Mr. G. H. Armstrong for competition among the senior teams. The junior fifteen was rather fortunate during the year, and were successful in carrving off the junior championship. The team played 11 matches, won 10, and drew 1. Tt scoi-ed 121 points in all, whilst only 28 points were registered against them. Included in the ranks of the team were some fast nippy players, and this year 1 trust that the senior team will include some of the juniors in its ranks, as. judging by last year's form, quite a number are entitled to consideration for higher honours. During the year a member of the senior fifteen, Mr. Stan Fitness, had f ra c - BnsidBc to ■d to I the B m HseaI and ■ the ■ tho I 16s ■ sd. ■ Id. ■i of ■ fifBd is BugBe on■edit i ch Bp?ew I we B;t un - B we B ayed ■every B'- and ll! in B e en ' I PreB^tarv. Short. .Too Adorns, R. Perkins, .Tim Adams, F. Rvan, F. Graham: club rantain, Mr. John Beatty: coach. Mr W. Adams. The election o!" delegates to the Franklin Ruoby Union was considered at length. Members generally were of the opinion th.it delegates should be non-playing members, aiv' it was decided that it be a recommendation to the union to consider this nosition. Tn former years the nosition was he.ld by some of the players, which was contended was an unsatisfactory state of affairs. The club appointed Messrs. Joe Wi!son and J. Beatty as its delegates. On the motion' of Mr. W.' Shod the secretary was instructed to anplv to the Borough Council I'oi" th A use of two playing grounds on the Recreation Ground, and also that apnlication be made for permission t-> charge admission to matches. Tt was decided to make application for Hie iico of Messrs. Rnckland and Sons' horse bazaar for training purposes. The respective teams are to meet eves'y Thursday night for training. Subscription Fee The subscription fee for the seasun was lixed at 5s for seniors and L's lid for juniors. Insurance. The matter of arranging for the insurance of players was left in the hands of Mr. W". Short. The question of making an early start was discussed, and it was agreed to arrange a match for .March 27, when the Trades will try conclusions with the Farmers. All players and intending players a:v requested to attend! As a mark of appreciation of last .war's services the secretary was voted !;l Is. The secretary accepted the gift, and redonated it to the dub's funds. 110 was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for the dona tion. The meeting; terminated with a vote of thanks to the chair.
