FRIDAY, MARCH 19, 1920. BUSINESSMEN'S ASSOCIATION.
"We nothing extenuate, nor set down aught in malice."
A letter in this issue, from a local business lirm, draws attention i" a matter that needs to lie dealt with at the eailiest poss : kle date, namely, the obvious disadvantage '.he business people of Pukekohe are placed ander because of the f.-.et that they are not organised. Our correspondent instances the question of holidays, the decision in vspeet to which, except for statutory holidays, seems to be the responsibility of no one in particular. We have, therefore, the farcical position of half of the business places being dosed and the other half open. What is required is a businessmen's association, which could decide in ample time whether or not the shops should close on certain days, arid publicly announce their intentions accordingly. Such a p;oc:c l ure v would be satisfactory to the . public, the business people and their employees. An association might also deal with such matters a.s abuses of the credit system and other kindred things. The Faster holidays will shortly be upon us, and therefore it behoves the business people to hold a meeting and do something' definite without delay.
