Morrow, the clerk, Mr. J. F. Deane, and the foreman, Mr. S. Clews. An apology for absence was received from the Mayor (Mr. C. K. Lawrie). The deputy-mayor (Cr. D. R. Hamilton) occupied the chair. The Pukekohe Volunteer Fire Brigade asked for a donation towards the expenses of sending five men to compete in the Fire Brigades' Competitions at the Thames. The council held that these competitions were the means of making the firemen efficient. fcs was granted, seeing that the men had been training intensely tor some time for the events, but nevertheless the tone of members was that the council w i!'J have to be chary of giving any further donations for some consider ible time. Mr. T. Pollock, junr.; requested the council to connect up the water mains to his land, in accordance with the agreement with the previous owner, Mr. Geo Hart. The applicant took it for granated that, as pe>' agreement, the council would stand the expense.—Referred to council's solicitors. The secretary of the Pukekohe Hockey Club asked permission for the club to play on the recreation ground, also permission to erect posts.—Granted temporarily, si: jject to charges to be fixed later. Members considered it was time a charge was made for the use of the recreation ground for all sports.- ■ Recreation Ground Committee to report . The secretary of the Chamber of Commerce (Mr. V. S. Roberts) wrote stating that the chamber opposed the loan proposal of £84,000 until and unless full information was given to the ratepayers; the chamber could not favour the repayment of the loan within 10 years: also, it wanted to know where the town hall was going to be. The chamber desired a public meeting of ratepayers. —Decided to reply that a full statement had been issued, by circular, to all the ratepayers. The supervisor of the manual and technical branch of the Education Board invited the council's nomination for one member for the Pukekohe Technical School Advisory Com-mittee.--Cr J. Patteison nominated. Fifty-one extra names have been added to the ratepayers' roll, making the total about GSO. In refeltence to drainage work at Mr. Goodwin's property, Cr. Daysh. said the foreman had never been instructed or in any way authorised to carry out such work, notwithstanding reports to the contrary. After discussion, it was decided to inform Mr. Goodwin's solicitor that the council would put in a cesspit, but would not put in pipes on private property. Complaints were made that horses were straying on every road. It was suggested that after a person's animal had been impounded twice the owner should be prosecuted.- Clerk instructed to write and "stir yji" the ranger, with a hint that his serviceswould be terminated if he did not display greater efficiency. Cr. Patterson urged that sand or small shingle be placed on King Street to prevent horses slipping on the tar macadam. It was pointed out that any such dressing would soon be swent off within a week. Cr. Patterson rejoined that that would be better than sweeping up the animals and people that might be injured. Members remarked that a similar state of things occurred in Aui-klauu. In most cases slipping was due <o faulty driving, starting horses too suddenly, etc. Cr. Patterson wanted to know whether or not the kerbing in Prospect Terrace was to be completed: if not, the watertable would be washed out. There was only UOfl lithe loan proposal for that road. The foreman pointed out that something would need to be done on the lower end. where two houses were being built—Referred to Works Committee.
