NO ELECTION. Owing to the withdrawal of his nomination by Mr. J. D. Chalmers (VVaiuku) there will now be no election for the Franklin Licensing Committee. , , To his credit, Mr. Chalmers, whose re-election was a foregone conclusion, withdrew solely in order to avoid putting the countv to the expense of about v::iso. Mr. Chalmers, who has been a member of the committee for the past fifteen years, was certainly entitled to remain and his self-abnegation merits the thanks of the ratepayers. The candidate who is capable of taking so broadminded a view of things expressed the opinion that the money an election would cost might be much more profitably spent for metal on the roads. J
