OVERHEAD BRIDGE
PAERATA RLEQUEiT. Mr. W. Parkinson, Auckland, wrote to the Franklin County Conn cil yesterday with reterence to Hitrailway crossing at J/aerata. He drew the council's attention t;> the railway crossine now proposed to i take the place of the present one ! that is being c:mcj:led, and rep,est - i ed the council 1< bring reavv presj sure to bear on U;e Ra.iway D-.part--1 ment to have overhead bridge erected from the present roadway ' leading from D. ury, 'aihimaia and Fast Pukekohe. On the cast side the grade In the ro id would be greatly improved it this was done, leaving only the west side to be banked up. Mr! Parkinson considered tha ! . when overhead bridges weie being constructed at Mauki, and W:.iuku ovei places at least as costly t l ' erect as the proposed one, it sceuuct silly that the branch line should be so treated when the branch and main line combined are to be let- with an extremely dangerous level crossinn. Considering the eiurmous increase in traffic, both railway and otherwise, it seemed most desirable that the mattei should receive earn est consideration and action without delay. The engineer said the crossing was going t .'be shl. ted, and he county road altered on the Karaka side. The road would run through the bush, and the present crossing would not be required. The engineer, on the motion of Cr. Montgomerie, wa£ instructed to confer with the district engineer, with a view to getting an overhead, j bridge. j
