FRANKLIN RAGING CLUB
COMMITTEE MEETING. The committee of the Franklin Racing Club met in the Borough Council Chambers on Thursday night, Mr C. Clarke, vice-president, presiding in the absence of the president, Mr. W. Claud Motion. There weie present Messrs. S. J. Clews, J. Kennelly, H. Stuart, W. Hawke, R. McGough, Geo. Armstrong, E. C. Cuff, W. Pieydell, F. Brown and A. P. Daysh secretary. Mr. Daysh reported that he and Mr. H. Stuart attended the annual conference of country racing clubs, held at Hamilton. They were assured that the country delegates to the New Zealand Racing Conference would do all in their power to have a "tote" permit granted to the Franklin Club. For some time past the club has held an option over the property of Mr. D. R. Hamilton, a most suitable property for a racecourse. The club had the ground surveyed and it was found that a course almost a mile round could be made. The property consists of 96 acres, and the pfice asked was £BS an acre, which makes a total of £BI6O for the ground. On the motion of Messrs. W. Pieydell and J. Kennelly, it v;aa decided to acquire the property, and the secretary was instructed to rdvise the club's solicitor to proceed with the necessary transfer arrangements, and have same completed by March 31. It was decided to register the club under the Incorporated Societies' Act. Messrs. McGough, Clews and Armstrong were appointed a ground committee to make arrangements for ihe cutting of blackberries. It was decided to meet again on March 11. Messrs. Hancock (Bombay), .J. Beatty and I. A. Motion (Pukekohe), and C. Waugh (Drury) were added to the committee.
