MANUREWA TOWN BOARD
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Manurewa Town Board was held last evening, when there were present: Messrs G. H. Lupton (chairman), E. S. Pegler, Geo. Coxhead, E. J. Butterworth, F. Woods, Geo. Smith, P. J. Corin, together with the clerk, Mr. H. Kay. Mr*. White's Road. At last meeting of the board it was pointed out that the Manukau County Council had accepted dedication of Mrs. White's Road. As the road was under the control of the board, the clerk was authorised to obtain legal opinion on the matter. —The board's solicitors replied that they could find no authority whatever for the council's action. It appeared to be quite clear that the Town Board was the only authority having jurisdiction, and it was quite outside the council's province to interfere.—On the motion of Mr. Corin, seconded by Mr. Coxhead, it was decided to forward a copy of the legal opinion to the owners of the property concerned. Post Office. The Postmaster-General, Hon. J. Gordojj. In accordance with the board's request, thfiylistrict engineer of New Zealand Airways advised that the Departmff would erect a turnstye gate end of the new roafl, abuttinfljjjoi the railway reserve at Manurewa. * Overhead Bridge—£2ooo Loan. The Prime Minister, the Right Hon. W. P. Massey, acknowledged receipt of the board's letter urging an early completion of the formalities for validating of a loan of £2OOO, which was being raised by the board, for the road and approaches to the proposed overhead bridge at Manurewa. In reply he pointed out that he had taken up the matter with the Minister for Finance. Mr. Massey also forwarded a copy of a letter he had forwarded to the solicitors for. Manukau County Council, wherein it stated *, v that the Minister for Finance had, in ■ rr*iew of the urgency of the matter, proposed to validate the irregularities in the proceedings taken in connection with the loan. He requested the solicitors to make further application for the loan to the State Adi vances Office, together with the re- • lative papers, the proceedings would

The owners of ;he property had contributed towards tthe cost of constructing the drain, and the County Council had itself connected a property with the drain. It was decided to bring the matter under the notice of the Health Department with an urgent request that in the Interests of public health <ithe Department take urgent steps to have the complaint abated. Metal. The cterk reported that he had v urged the superintendent of His Majesty's Prisons to expedite the delivery of metal now on order to the board. Conference. The Papatoetoe Town Board wrote { suggesting that the Manurewa Town Board convene a meeting of delegates from Papakura, Manurewa and Papatoetoe Town Boards for the purpose of discussing the possibilities of arranging a mutual nightsoil service and a water supply. It was decided to hold the meeting on Monday, March 15, at 7.30 p.m., in the Manurewa Hall. Overdue Rates. The board's solicitors advised that they had collected all overdue rates with the exception of those due on a deceased person's estate. Proposad Loam. m The clerk reported that he had P made application for the precedent consent of the Governor-General-in-Council for the raising of loans of £BOOO for road works and £2OOO for the object of acquiring grounds for recreation purposes. the district, that animated pictures would be shown on Thursday, if the board had granted a permit to anyone for the purpose. The clerk replied in the negative. Mr. Corin pointed out that before anyone could get a permit they had to erect a fire-proof operating box, and provide exits in case of fire. He moved that the board do not hire the hall for animated picture shows until such time as a fire-proof operating box and fire exits had been provided. He pointed out that there was now another theatre in Manurewa, and it was unfair for one to be made to comply with the requirements, and the other not. Members agreed, and the motion was carried. Notice of Motion. Mr. Butterworth gave notice to move at next meeting that the public hall be sold.—gag^^——
