CARLTON PICNIC
A SUCCESSFUL EVENT. One of the most successful picnics ever held in this district eventuated on Saturday at Carlton in Mr. J. Steenson's paddock, under the auspices of a committee of residents of i,he settlement. The locality was an ideal one for a picnic, it being bordered on the south-western side with beautiful native bush. Taking advantage of the magnificent day, people from far and near gathered on the picturesque grounds. The event was an annual one prior to the outbreak of war, but during the conflict of nations the authorities decided to abandon the picnic. The first since the cessation of hostilities took place as 'above. An energetic committee of ladies and gentlemen had elaborate arrangements complete, and everything went off without a hitch, culminating in the most successful function ever held. There were games and sports for young and old, all spending a thoroughly enjoyable time. The success of the day's outing is due to the efforts of a large committee of ladies, assisted by Messrs. T. W. Woods (handicapper), A. Robinston (starter), T. Jenkins (call steward), J. Foster (judge) and W. Hill, who presented the prizes, one and all of whom worked assiduously to achieve tthe desired object. Refreshments, in the hands, .f the ladies, were duly arenvii.iu'.
