Benzine Storage. A report was brought before the council by tthe foreman (Mr. S. Clews) in reference to benzine storage, which stated that a magazine was needed, such as existed in every other town.—Matter deferred. Works Report. The following works have been done during the month:— Manukau Road—Manukau Road has been completed and fenced. Culverts Bafe. The water is now carried on a straight course to the creek. Hall Street.—Formation work has been done in Hall Street, footpaths McGuire's and Jellicoe Roads.—McGuire's Road and Jellicoe Road have been rolled, but owing to the dry weather these roads will require to be rolled again to effect a better bond. This will be done in damp weather.
King Street.—The paths on the southern side of King Street have been treated with Restar and shell. Numerous small jobs have been attended to.
Recommendations. A general cleaning up of water tables with plough and grader should be done before the wet season sets in. The teams could be profitably used 1n the formation work in Albert Street, so that when material is available this street could then be metalled.
Cr. Patterson urged that the footpath in Prospect Terrace be completed. Cr. Daysh supported.—Agreed to have the work done. Cr. Daysh said tthe foreman anticipated being able to repair Albert Street by working on it from time to time between other jobs. Cr. Patterson asked that the footpath on Hall Street on the east side should be finished. Also, he commented that earth had been put on a right-of-way at the back of the Masonic Hall, which was not a dedicated road. He admitted that the work was beneficial to the public, but the council would have to be careful with such matters. The man who owned the property was dead. Postal Delivery. The Mayor reported that, after an interview with the chief postmaster, it had been arranged that the Hill mail delivery should be continued. There had not been an opportunity of reporting on the question of obstructing cables. Public Conveniences. The Mayor expressed the opinion that public conveniences should be provided in the town. He suggested that the sanitary committee be asked to report on the matter.—Carried. Cr. Patterson opined that the convenience in the Recreation Ground should be completed. Mr. Wyalt said the trouble had been to get a carpenter to do the work.—Agreed to get the work done as soon as possible. "That Monument." Cr. Patterson referred to the Seddon Memorial, which was now lying in the Recreation Ground. Cr. Daysh said the Works Committee had been very busy of late, but would attend to the matter shortly. Loan Propossals. It was resolved that the whole of the loan proposals, including drainage, be taken "en bloc." No mention was made of the proposed Town Hall site question. We understand that new developments are pending.)
