DISTRICT NEWS.
PAPATOETOE. TOWN BOARD MEETING. The Papatoetoe Town Board meeting was held in the board room on February 17. Present: Messrs. J. Watson (chairman), F. Mulcock, A. Hall, S. McCullough, A. W. Timewell, J. Death, H. C. Ernest (clerk). The secretary reported that he had not reecived any reply to his letter to the Manurewa Board re sanitary service.
Several plans for subdivisions of land were before the board. Mr. McGarry*s subdivision was referred on to the Building Committee. Mr. Pegler's subdivision, on the motion of Mr. Timewell, seconded by Mr. Hall, was approved. A road through Mr. Mulcock's property, for which a permit wa§ sought, Mr. J. Death moved that a report be obtained from the board'i engineer before granting the permit. —Seconded by Mr. Timewell. A letter was received from Mr. Peacocke, asking that the blackberry bushes on Kolmar Road, opposite his property be cut down.—Decided to accede to his request. A communication from Mr. Waldo Smith, re the state of the footpath In front of his new shops, was received .
Mr. Death moved that the footpath from the post office to the corner of Kolmar Road be tarred and sanded, which would include Mr Smith's frontage. Mr. Timewell seconded.—Carried.
A petition from the residents of Carruth Road and Bird wood Avenue was received, praying for the formation of a footpath to their respectnflß dwellings before the wet weather sets in. The clerk was requested to write to them to see if they would be willing to contribute towards the cost.
The engineer wrote suggesting that the junction of Coronation Road with Station Road be brought up to the permanent level. The *board authorised the works committee to take the matter in hand. Plans for the erection of a bungalow were received from Mr. T. Moore for approval also plans of Ernest and Dilworth's new office, which is to be erected in concrete. Mr. Death moved, Mr. McCullough seconding, that the plans be approved, and building permits issued.
Mr. Death said he thought it was time now that the board should depute the foreman to supervise the several works that were now on hand, and that he (the foreman) be authorised to engage two more men, as the works in hand required to be got through before the winter was upon us. He thought that the tarring of the several footpaths should be •gone on with at once. It was left hands of the works committee to push things along, as suggested by Mr. Death. ..Recounts passed for payment amminted to £59 lis 7d.
