FRANKLIN A. & P. SHOW

STOCK ENTRIES CLOSED.

HORTICULTURAL EXTENDED.

The stock entries for the Franklin A. and P. Show, which takes place on Friday, 27th, and Saturday, i!Bth, of this month, closed on Wednesday. Good entries have been received in hunting horses, also milking Shorthorns, Friesians and Jerseys, too, except for the pedigree Jersey cow section. Sheep entries are rather poor, but pigs are fair. The time for the receipt of entries for the horticultural and home industries section has been extended, the entries for these being poor. School classes are particularly desired. The conditions governing the supply of materials necessary for home industries have been singularly unfavourable. First, there was the dry weather, which militated against the growth of vegetables, and now there is a shortage of sugar, which prevents jam and jelly making, confectionery and preserves generally. Still from an entrant's point of view, as there will be less competition than in previous years, aspiring growers and makers of preserves and confectionery should take heart of grace and put entries in. Comparatively speaking, they will stand a good chance of winning a prize.
