DRIVEN TO DEATH
BY HOUSING TROUBLES.
SUICIDE AT MANUREWA
Joseph Kennerlay met his death from a gunshot, self-inflicted, on Wednesday, at Manurewa. The evidence tendered at the inquiry held by the district coroner, Mr. Cedl Roadley, at Manurewa, shows that deceased, a man 75 years of age, met with an accident at last Christmas time by falling from a tram car. Since then he had complained of pains in the head, and that, combined with a constant "house hunt," had evidently temporarily unhinged his mind to so serious a degree that, upon experiencing "the pleasure of a quiet life" when visiting his daughter, Mrs. Sarah Cottle, at Manurewa, he decided (as per entry in his pocket book, "I can't go back"), to terminate his existence. The coroner, after careful inquiry, brought in a verdict as of si iciue during emporary insanity.
