Some of us, though, who are blessed with a sweet tooth, will be adversely affected in another way, and that is, that sweets will become both scarce and dear. This is rather a gloomy outlook, but for Pukekohe at least things will not be nearly so bad as one would imagine. This is due to the fact that Mr. A. W. Oldham, of Oldham's Fruit Store, King Street, has been very fortunate in being able to secure large stocks of confectionery before the real shortage sets in, and will be able to supply all your wants in that line -for some time to come. He claims to have the (inest assortment in Pukekohe, from the humble blackball to the choicest chocolates and chrystallised fruits, and it will pay you to remember this when you have a desire for sweets which requires satisfying. That the position in regard to the sugar shortage is acute is exemplified by the fact that the Prime Minister has ordained that the supply of sugar to confectioners be severely curtailed in order that the season's fruit may be utilised for jam making. This has certainly assured us of our stocks of jam for the coming year, and has eliminated the probability of a glut of fruit on the markets, which othecwise would have obtained.
