DRURY.
PUBLIC LIBRARY. The annual meeting of the subscribers of the Drury Public Library was held in the Drury Hall on Thursday night, the 22nd inst., there being about 14 subscribers present 4 The secretary reported that the library, which has been in existence for 16 years now, contains over 1100 books. The subscriptions for last year came to £6 15s, being the largest since the institution of the library. 1560 books were taken out for reading during that time. The total receipts came to £2l 9s sd, which includes the Government subsidy. The expenditure was £l4 12s 2d, of which £ll 14s was for new books, leaving a balance in hand of £6 17s 3d. The number of subscribers is now about 27. Owing to the large number of new books bought during the last few years, all the available space in the two bookcases is now so congested that the secretary was instructed to procure an additional one.
The following committee was elected for the ensuing year:—Messrs S. Fielding, H. Caughey, K. Gardiner, Girdwood and Hepburn. Mr. W. H. C. Glasson moved a vote of thanks to Mr. S. Fielding for his past 16 years' service as secretary and librarian, and the subscribers, on the motion of Mr. T. Brooks, voted him a grant of two guineas as a small mark of their appreciation of his services.
