MERCER. TOWN BOARD MEETING. At a meeting of the Mercer Town Board the weekly half-holiday was fixed for Wednesday, instead of Thursday, as formerly. New Building. Plans were submitted by Mr. L. R. Pulham of a new and up-to-date shop to replace the old buildings which have served for so many years. In moving that the plans as submitted be approved, the chairman j remarked that this was a distinct | move forward in the progress of the township, and the motion was carried unanimously. Punt Ferry Servioe. A ratepayer from the Pukekawa Riding attended the meeting, and requested the board to consider raising the punt, and resuming the punt ferry service. The matter will be gone into in the near future. ONEWHERO ATHLETIC SPORTS. Thursday, January 29, anniversary of Auckland Province, should be remembered by residents of Onewhero and surrounding districts, as the Onewhero Athletic Club will hold a sports meeting in Mr. John Cathcart's paddock. The programme contains no less than 18 events, the chief among which is the Onewhero Cup Handicap, run over a course of 220 yds, for £3, £l, and 10s. There are other running events to suit all. while the day's outing should be enlivened by the inclusion in the programme of horse events. Elaborate arrangements are complete, and present indications point to the meeting being an unqualified success. For further particulars see advertisement and posters.
