FOftTNIfiHTLV MEETING. The Papakura town Board met on Monday evening, when there were present—Dr. A. W. Brookfield (chairman), Messrs. E. D. McLennan, D. W. Jones, T. D. Campbell, 8. With regard to the above, the v Right Hon. W. F. Massey, Prime ' w Minister, wrote stating that he would confer with the Minister for Finance with a view to seeing whether the loan could be made available by the end of February. He would again communicate with the board as soon as posible.—Received. In reply to the board's application I for a grant of £SOO on the £1 for £1 basis for the park, the Minister for Lands, t|je Hon. D. H. Guthrie ; regretted that the matter had not been received in time to deal with ■ before the close of last session, but
it would receive consideration upon th®, next session's estimates. With reference to the stupe matter, the Prime Minister, the Right Hon. W. F. Massey, advised that he had placed the matter in the hands of the Minister for Lands, He also pointed out that it should be clearly , understood that any such grant would have to be authorised by Parliament. before it could be made available for payment.—Received. Factory Drainage. it was reported that the creev used for the casein factory drainage was now dry, and that there was no smell from the creek. With jefejMice to the matter, the dairy superintendent, Mr. W. Y. Kllrkman," wrote stating that the creamery manager at Papakura had been supplied with ample stocks of chloride of lime, with instructions to use effectively.—The letter was ■jrerely " received." Maori Dogs. The Department of Internal Affairs advised of an adjustment in section 16 of the Native Land Claims Amendment Act, 1919, wherein provision was made for the registration of MaOri-6wned dogs as well as Euro-pean-owned dogs.—Received. Lamplighter. The natter of arranging for a lamplight#; was left in the hands of the craftman. - -* i ' -Water Supply Scheme. v Matttrg hi tO!iß®etton "tflth the water supply were discussed in committee, and it was decided eto take steps at once to raise a loan of £28,000 for. the whole scheme.
Cook Street. Mr. Campbell thought the board should have Cook Street put into order before the winter months set in. He thought the thoroughfare Bhould be regraded and metal placed clerk was instructed to obtain quotations for metal, same to,be before the board at next meet- > in& Riding on Footpaths, p Action to be Taken. Some time ago the board brought up the matter of the number of persons riding bicycles along the footpaths. Mr. S. Evans said the ntyisnjtte was still as bad as ever and he thought the by-laws should be ehforced. ( On his motion, it was decided to instruct the police to take action under the by-laws. Footpaths to be Repaired. It was decided to have scoria placed on the footpath near the Presbyterian Church. It was decided, on the motion of Mr. Campbell, to instruct the Works Committee to have the footpath from the post office to Gillespie's Building tarred and sanded. The clerk was instructed to write to the Minister for Defence and the Prime Minister with a view to having some war trophies allotted to Papakura. The meeting then terminated.
