Dual Licensing.
At the. last meeting of the Tua- |j| kau Town Boards the question of jg dual licensing of carriers by local bodies was brought up by the chair- JEM man. The matter arose over a com- |pß plaint received by him from a carrier license d by the Tuakau Town Board, and who had carted material to Onewhero and Pukekawa Ridings *| of the Raglan County, that he had - been compelled to take out a half- ,|p| year's license by the Raglan County -y Council. The board contended that iSa as Onewhero and Pukekawa carriers |j were allowed to do business in the -<|l Town Board area without a license, i that it was an injustice for a Tua- J kau licensed carrier to be compelled A jl to take out a license by the Raglan | County. With reference to the mat- *'|| ter, the board wrote to the council Jj complaining of an injustice, and requested the amount to be refunded. J failing which the board would hs.ve J no other altera ative but to enforce < licenses on and Onewhero | carriers licensed by toe county. Cr. Crawford pointed out that the chairman of Tuakau Town Board had jg spoken to him on the matter on W lines of above. He considered that M the council's action was quite In or- | der. Cr. Morrison said it was an in- fa® justice to the Pukekawa and One- m where carriers who had paid for li- J| censes plying for hire to be com- ,||| peting against a Tuakau carrier who had not taken out a license from || the Raglan County. The chairman said if the Tuakau J| carrier had gone five miles in the jsp Raglan County he was liable for a || license." M It was decided to reply to the board, stating that the council was quite justified in enforcing a license || fee, and also that they were not ff prepared to go into the legal fapcct .t of the board's intended action cf yiiffl compelling Onewhero and Pukekawa carriers trading in Tuakau to take out a license. ,/•£' -h The Tuakau Town Board ed an account for £54, tthe cil's (Onewhero, Pukekawa and Port Waikato Riding) contribution to the Tuakau peace celebrations. Crs. Crawford and Morrison thought that as they had agreed to contribute £lO each, that the account j agreed be paid. They would allow , £5 for the Port Waikato Riding. Councillors contended that it was -. not a fair thing to expect the rid* ings to contribute as much towards the expenses as the Tuakau township.—lt was decided to contribute £25 towards the expenses. Finger Posts. Cr. Otway said he understood a - number of people lost their way, * the Pukekawa and Whangape Rid-' ings frequently on account of their not being sufficient finger posts indicating the way. "Finger posts required all over the county, torted another councillor. Eventually, the engineer was instructed to have finger posts directed wherever he thought neetejWF" 1 every riding. Pay Sheet. The paysheet, amounting to about £6200, was approved of, and passed for payment.
