(Continued from Friday). Howick Main Road.
The matter of Howick main road deferred from last meeting, was again considered, and it was decided, on the motion of Cr. Hattaway, to repair the road wherever it was required. White's Subdivision.
Messrs. Harrison and Grierson forwarded plans with reference to Mrs. White's subdivision at Manurewa. Mr. White waited on the council with a request that the council accept dedecation of the road.—lt was decided to accede to his request.
Oram's Road.
Bernard Peguers and six other ratepayers of Manurewa petitioned the council to grade and have metalled, as soon as possible, about eight chains of Oram's Road at present unmetalled, on the grounds that during the past years the road has been most inconvenient, and at times almost impassable and dangerous.—Left in the hands of the engineer and Cr. Reid to inspect and report on at the next meeting. Maraetai Deviation. Mrs. Jessie Craig wrote stating that she was not agreeable for a deviation to be taken through her property at Maraetai.—On the motion of Cr. Government Subsidies.
With reference to the question of subsidies paid by the Government to county councils and road boards, discussed at previous meetings of the council, the Prime Minister, the Right Hon. W. F. Sir Frederick Laing, in rethat he would be pleased to fcive the council any assistance he could. —Received. Orere Road Obstructions.

A Papatoetoe Affair.
In connection with the Papatoetoe Town Board's elase of McLaughlin's quarry, and the subsequent agreement drawn up by the council's solicitors in respect of drainage done to the roads under the jurisdiction of the council, the damage by cartage to be borne by the board, the clerk, Mr. H. C. Ernest, wrote, stating that the board had declined to complete the agreement on the lines laid down therein. The original intention of Mr. McLaughlin was to board and the county as to the board's keeping in order of McLaughlin Road, in so far as to the damage done by the board's carting. Further than this he was not concerned.
The solicitor, who was in' attendance, said the agreement, to apply to Carruth, Pahunui and McLaughlin's Roads, was a very reasonable one, because the Town Board, instead of carting over McLaughlin's Road, they could divert on to Pahunui Road. Councillors concurred, and eventually the matter was left in the hands of Crs. Waters and the engineer to place the position before the Papatoetoe Town Board.
Manurewa Drainage,
The District Health Officer, Dr. Monk, wrote stating that the health inspector had visited and repc. ted upon the condition of a storm water drain in the main street at Manurewa. It appeared that nine householders had, without permission from anyone, connected their house drains in the storm water drain, and by so doing had converted it into i sewer. He requested the council to serve notice upon all these householders to have their drains cut off from the storm water sewer, and to disposal of their sewer water.—lt was decided to comply with the request, and the clerk was instructed to serve notices on the respective offenders.
Clevedon to Hunua Road,
With reference to the expenditure of the Government gran and subsidy on the Clevedon to Hunua Road, the clerk of the Franklin County Council, Mr. Alan P. Day, intimated that the Minister for Pnblic Works had estimated the cost of providing a new bridge across the Wairoa River to replace the one destroyed by the Hood at £BOO. and he was prepared to issue authority for £4OO (£1 for £1) oue of flood damage vote, as soon as plans, specifications and estimates of cost for a suitable structure had been submitted to, and approved by, the district engineer. The district engineer of the Public Works Department advised that a further sum of £3OO, free grant, appeared on the appropriations for making the road for dray trafficIn connection with the bridge, the Franklin County Council was prepared to find £IOO, if the Manukau Council would find the other £3OO required. The Franklin Council was also prepared, provided the Manukau Council found the £3OO abovementioned, to supplement the grant for road by £2OO, thus making, available £BOO for the bridge and £SOO for the road—£l3oo.—As the position was not quite clear, it was decided to meet representative of Franklin County at the bridge site on February 12, at 10 a.m..—The chairman. Cr. Luke and the engineer were deputed to represent Manukau.

The settlers themselves agreed to raise a loan to metal a further portion of 185 chains, which will complete the road to the flat near Mr. Grant's house. It will require 2220 yards of metal to give us a road 10ft wide and 6in deep, the approximate cost of which would be £1250. Mr. Patterson's subdividing scheme.—The same members also met Mr. Pantterson and his engineer on December 20, and after going over the property it was decided, subject to the approval of the council, that the main road from Maraetai to the proposed wharf be formed to a width of 30ft and metalled 10ft wide and 6in deep, all bye-roads to be formed 24ft wide.
