CRICKET.

Tuakau v Pukekohe. Latter Hopelessly Out* classed. Tuakau Wins by 59 Runs. In response to an invitation by the Tuakau Cricket Club, the Pukekohe eleven journeyed to Tuakau on Saturday to try conclusions with the home team. The latter won the toss and decided to go to the crease. From the very outset the batsmen were careful, and played steady cricket, at times, causing the visitors some leather hunting. Daring the innings the home team hit 10 fours. Tuakau were finally disposed of for 74 runs. The chief contributions being Palmer f26), and Lonergan 14.) The visitors replied with the Bmall total of 18 runs. The trundling of Lonergan proved too deadly for the Pukekohe boys, and from the commencement he proved a huge thorn in the team's side. He took 8 wickets for 7 runs, and at one period had captured 5 wickets for 1 run. He accomplished the hat trick, and even went further, as he captured four wickets in succession, and the fire in one over. That Tuakau possesses a very solid team is acknowledged, and before the season is ccmpleted, some big things should be recorded. In their second innings the home team made 35 for the loss of 8 wickets. Requiring 92 runs to win the visitors made only 32 runs. Tuakau thus won by 59 runs. The teams were hospitably entertained at afternoon tea arranged by a ladies' committee. The refreshment was duly appreciated and the ladies were accorded a hearty vote of thanks, carried by cheers Mr G. P. Ewing of Whangarata, and Mr Booker of Tuakau, proved efficient umpires. A return match will be played at Pukekohe on Saturday next Appended are the scores:— TUAKAU FIRST INNINGS.
