PAPAKURA TOWN BOARD.

Adjourned Meeting.

(Staff Reporter) The adjourned meeting of the Papakura Town Board was held on Monday evening, when there was present Messrs 8. Evans, T. D. Campbell, D. W. Jones, ill. D. McLennan, A. Wallis and the clerk Mr A. L Cooper. In the absence of the chairman Dr Brookfield, Mr McLennan was voted to the chair. Mr D. W. Jones, who was absent from the last meeting, tendered an apology, stating that he had overlooked his notice. lie was sorry the incident occurred, as it spoiled his record, it being the "first meeting he had missed. CASEIN FACTORY DRAINAGE. With reference to the erection of a settling tank at the Oasein factory, the District Health officer, D( H G Monk, intimated that up to the present time no plans for a settling tank bad been submitted to him by the Dairy Company. He added that he would probably be in the neighbourhood of Papakura on Tuesday (today). He pointed out that it was not possible for anyone to give a guarantee that any sort of tank would be absolutely successful; in fact, there was trouble with creameries and casein factories wherever they were situated. Dr Brookfield, Mr''Jones and the clerk were delegated to meet the Health Officer when he visited Papakura. In reference to the creek, Mr Campbell said a drain in the creek bad been removed, and it appeared quite fresh now. Mr McLennan said no offensive matter was being put down the drain at present, arrangemSntlfeaving been made to place it on Mr Campbell's property. .--%>• Mr Evans said there had been no offensive smell during the last two days. It was pointed that the work in connexion with the settling tank was being proceeded with. PERMISSION TO CUT TREES. Mr G. W. Godbehere applied for permission to cut branches for firewood, from trees on Young's Beach Road.—The chairman, (Dr Brookfield), anp Mr McLennan, were appointed a sub-committee to inspect, and lepnrt at next meeting, as to the best ways and means of disposing of the trees. It was resolved to inform Mr Godbehere, that his application had been deferred pending the subcommittee's report. WATER MAINB In reply to the Board's let'er, requesting the permission of Franklin 3ounty Council to place water mains on Settlement and Hunua Roads, the Clerk of the Council Mr Alan P. Day, stated he would place the matter before next meeting of the Council. He suggested that the Board submit plans or tracings, showing the pow&m and extent of proposed mutw mains. The clerk was instructed to forward the necessary tracings. At this stage, the chairman Dr Brookfield, attended, but Mr McLennan remained in the chair.

BANITARY SITE Mr Campbell said he noticed in the Pukekoiie Times. that Manurewa had a movement on foot to establish a sanitary scheme. He wondered if Manurewa had a site selected, and if so, it may be possible to make arrangements with them to dnmp the nightsoil from both pla. the same site. It was left in*-Mr Campbell's hands to make enquiries. It was pointed out that the Board would soon have to look for another site. beach road The clerk of the Franklin County Council wrote asking if the Board was prepared to contribute half the cost of reforming sides of boundary, portion of Beach Road and patching metal on same being about 25 chains in length from the western boundary of Mr J. Kirk's propertv to wastern boundary of Mr J. Kirk's property, to western boundary of Argvle Park estate. He pointed out the work would cost approximately £3o.—lt was decided to agree to the Council's request. grader work It was reported that excellent work was being done by the grader on the various roads in the district, and it was decided to attend to the Great South Road from Cave's Hill to the Poßt Office. Messrs McLennan, Campbell and Evans were appointed a sub-com-mittee to supervise the work.
