Tuesday's Meeting

Tho first mooting of the New Tear of Tuakau Town Board was held on Tuesday, whon there were present, Messrs Dynos Fulton (chairman), James Pirret, B. G Goraghty, W. Barnaby, J. M. Mungall, G. S.Lap wood, Charles Finch, and the clerk (Mr A. H. Tapper). GEORGE STREET COMPLETION The iTnder Secretary of the Public Works' Department advised that the item, £IOOO on account of the £ISOO (£ for £) for the road from the Tuakau Railway Station to Tuakau bridge, would bo available as soon as detailed plans, specifications and estimates of cost have been submitted to, and approved by the District Fngineer.—The chairman said he had received a telegram setting out the clear facts. The letter did not contain the clear facts, as it stated the grant was from the Railway Station to Tuakau -bridge.—That was not so. as it was from Pirret's corner to . the English Church, and then from the Catholio Church to the boundary. It was not £1 for £l, but a straight out grant He wanted the work to go ahead right away, taking advantage of the summer monhs, and as there was a possibility of delay in gazetting he would interview the District Engineer and urge him to approve of the plans light away. It was pointed out that the plans were already in the hands of the District Fngineer. The letter was received Mr J. Nicholson, Harrisville, requested the Board to have a gate erected at its stable to avoid horses from getting in ' to eat his maize Left ia the hands of the foreman to attend to. NOXIOUS WEED. ■ •■ Director General of Agriitnre advised that the plant, known as Lantana, had been gazetted as a noxious weed.—Received. The Department of Labour" notified that a special meeting of the Board should bo held to decide the statutory half holiday. It was decided to hold a special meeting on Tuesday, January 20th at Bp.m. LODGING HOUSE LICENSES. Lodging house licenses were granted Mrs Margaret Taylor and' Mr Arthur James Prescott. BILLIARD SALOON LICENSE. A billiard saloon license was granted Harry Dunbar Atbott, for one month, on account of the building not being in repair. It was also decided to writo tho owner requesting him to put the building in good repair, otherwise the billiard saloon license would be cancelled. TiC<; REGISTRATION. The dog registration foe for 1920, was fixed at 2s Gd for each, and evory kind of dog. UNPAID RATES. The dork was authorised to charge 10 per cent additional, ou to all rates unpaid, after January 10th STKAVINO CATTLE. Mr W. Barnaby drew the Board's attention to the fact that a number of cattle and horses, woro still allowed to stray on the roads. It was derided to give the Police power to take action, under the by-laws. t'iUMi's ENTRANCE. The chairman reported that he and tho engineer had inspected the cutting in front of Mr Gubb's prope fy, and had arrived at the conclusion that an entrance on the lower side would be sufficient. He Contended that if Mr Gubb accepted this entrance, it would give him a better crossing, than hitherto was the ease. He pointed out that Mr Cubb was not prepared to accept an entrance ou the lower side of his property, but wanted a front entrances well. Mr Fulton sail he told Mr Gubb that be would not recommend the two entrances, as ho never had them before. The Board's attitude all along, was to give Mr Gubb a reasonable entrance. Mr Pirret said he would have a decent approach, better than he had before. He moved that the clerk writs Mr W. Cubb, informing him that tho Board would give a reasonable crossing as suggested by the chairman atid engineer. Mr Finch second* d, and the motion was carried. Tho chairman said the Board had agreed to do woik on the main in oriul roads, before any other work, i : he thought they should abide by 'ecision. Carried. TUAKAU SCHOOL Mr Mungall said ho had seen a letter in tho Pikeicoiik Times, in reference to tho Tuakau school. He moved that tho Clerk bo instructed to write to the Education Board, pointing out that tho oveicrowding : in the Taukau School, and request! that they expedite tho erection of a ! new school for the benefit of tho' children. Mr Goraghty seconded. ! Mr Pirret moved as an amend- ' niont, that no action bo taken. Scoondod by Mr Barnaby ; Tie iimeudmoiit was lost, the mover, seconder, and the chairman '. voting for it, and Messrs Mungall, ' Gi-rn»hty, Lwpwood and Finch! against.
