DUAL LICENSING.
Tuakau Board's Action.
At the monthly meeting of the Tuakau Town Board, on Tuesday ni»hr, the-qwratiriiFof dual licensing of farriers by local bodies was brought up by the" chairman, Mr Jtynes fctated it had boon brought under his notice that u carrier licensed by the Board, and who had carted maternal to Onewhero, had been compelled to take out a half year's license from the Raglan County Council. He considered it an injustice, i'i view of the fact that carriers licensed by the Raglan bounty were allowed to convey material to Tuakau, and were not licensed by the Board. They also carted away from Tuakau Railway Station The matter, he added, afffctf (1 the wh. le of the local bodies in the Province, and he was of the opinion ill at a conference of local bodies should be held to come to an undirstauding. A man carrying on a earner's business in Tuakau, and carting in the Franklin County, was liable to be charged by the Franklin County .nd the same applied to Riigltin, Both had legal rights to do so. At the same time, he did not think it fair that a Tuakau carrier should'be penalised; while Kaglan carriers trading in the Board's area, were let off.
Eventually, on the motion of the chairman, seconded by Mr Mungall, the clerk was instructed to write to Raglan County Council, and ask if it was a*<l«ot-f th«y had charged a licensed carrier in the Tuakau Town Board lyalf year's registration fee, and if so, the Board considers that it wßrarrnrjtTstire as the carriers from Pukokawa and Onewhero and other parts of the Raglan County were permitted to ply for hire in the Town Board district without registration, and if the amount is not refunded, the, Boardlwould enforce its own license fees on Kaglan carriers.
