Crane Wanted.
SIR—I read with interest your timely article on 'Crane Wanted' and can only reiterate your remarks. The economy, not the expense,of up-to-date machinery is recognised by all progressive firms, and it is an injustice to the town and district of Pukekohe thai; the installation of a powerful crane has been so long delayed. Some time ago my firm had to unload a suction gas engine, and the primitive facilities for unloading at the Railway Station caused a lot of worry and expense. The Borough Council and Dairy Factories have had similar and very adverse commen<s have been made from time to time. x Motor cars, which are looked upon as a necessity, have to be unpacked in Auckland and driven up by road, as unloading facilities are not available at the Pukekohe Station. No blame, of course, is implied in any way to the local Railway Staff, who are most courteous and always willing to assist, but the fact remains that lifting has to be done by man power, where mechanical power should be available. I hope the Railway Department will have your "Leader" brought under their notice, and further, that the crane will be installed without any further delay. C. COOPER, FOR COOPER & CURD Pukekohe, Bth Jan., 1920.
