Engineer's Report

The Engineer, Mr W J. reported as follows, at the last meet-** ing of the Manukau County Council: Mangere Riding—A considerable amount of work has been carried out * in this riding, in cleaning weeds from reserves; attending to faulty water meters, and general maintenance works. The following roadk have received attention: Walmsley apd Mountain Road corner has been widened with 12 yards ot scoria, an extention of the existing culvert will further improve this cornOT, when the pipes are BuckUnd Road has been blinded with a tether four yards of scoria but t 9 recent dry spell of weather has prevented it from getting satisfactorily. I understand that Goodman is doing preliminary work in regards to the homestead bridge. Wairoa Riding.—Foreman Peterson and his gang have completed the Clevedon-Brookby Road and have made a good job of same. Mataitai Road.—The fillings at Shaw'a. has been backed up and the metal napped and blinded: also the stone facings to the culvert have been done Several other jobs have been attended to on this road. Four planks have been put in on bridge on Ness Valley Ro.ad. George Munro is proceeding to the Orere contracts this week. I aiu going out with him on Thursday to lay the culverts. QENt'HAIi Ro the purchase of motor tractor After a satisfactory trial with the" Sanderson tractor, (lie outfit was purchased for £6. f >o plus about £3O for spare parts, a list of which wil) be furnished by Mr Kidd. I have inspected the spare parts and fiud that they are all wearing parts whi' h will be required sooner or later I have engaged a driver, L.
