MANUREWA NOTES.

SOCIAL EVENTS,

A most successful bazaar was held on December 15th, in the new Picture Theatre at Manurewa in aid of the building fund for the new Catholic Church. The bazaar was opened by Mr and Mrs Moody of Alfrißton. Although the day was wet, great numbers of people turned out from different districts for the occasion, ar d good business was done, during the aftorn- on and evening in the various stalls. The s'alls were prettily decorated especially the plain sewing stall, the stall holders being Me?diraep|Juckeß, Peak and McGreal, Misses Moroney, FitxPatrick, Juckes and Doyle (side show Mrs Mtillors) A sum of over one hundred pounds was raised. On Friday December 15th Mrs W T. Cox, President of the Young Helpers' League (Dr Barnado's Homes) entertained s >me 50 children and adults at Sunny Park on the Grsat South Road . The afternoon was given up to games and races Before dispersing at fi o'clock Misa Ryan, the Auckland representative, (failed for three cheers for Mrs Cos. Subsequently the childrens' boxes were opened, returning a snm of fill 4s. This must be accounted very satisfactory seeing that through the epidemic last year the hoxe< were opened as late as March last The return shows an average oi over 5s per box and with the returns of March last and piivate subscriptions added, Manurewa has contributed over £2O in 1919 to this very deserving cause DRAINAGE

Manurewa, in common with all rising townships, is faced with tHis important question. As maftei s now .stand we have not a service of any description, and if we have a healthy community the question cannot be shelvod much longer. The Town Board will be compelled by force of public opinion to undertake a sjsfr * of drainage. Nature has provided the district with a splendid slope towards the sea (the natural outlet) With this natural fall to the sea and plenty of water (which can be had by boring) these conditions can be so effectively used that Manuiewa will continue to hold the reputation of being ouo iH? thu healthiest suburbs in tho of tl'i< Dominion
