Clarke Maconachy at Pukekohe. Professional in Poor Form. Mr Clarke Maconachy, New Zealand's professional billiard champion, visited Pukekohe on Saturday, and at Hasting's billiard saloon in the evening, met local players, in billiard and snooker matches, In a game of 400 up, Maconachy conceded 200 start to Mr D. Blake, and won by 116 points. His best breaks ,*ere 94, 82, 79, 43, 31. 26. He subsequently met Mr W. Butler, in a game of 400, conceding a similar start, and again won by 116 points. In this match he made breaks of 95, 67, 51, 41, 35, 31, 30, 29 and 24 Butler's best break was 30. The professional was in poor form, and his average was decidely low. Throughout he met bad luck, and frequently broke down playing easy shots, when the balls wete in the best possible position. He showed a decided weakness in potting the red, to gain position and it was in this that he failed to show his best form. He gave a fine display of cannoning at the top of the table, and it is in this department of the game that he makes his best breaks, although at times he gave glimpses of excellent form, in playing all round billiards. He can play the losing hazard game, but does not excel in this department, preferring nursery cannons. He also met Mr W. Butler in two games of snooker, conoeding3o start. He was hopelessly outclassed in the first game, Butler winning by 38 points. In the second game with the same start, Maconachy won by 16 points He compiled useful breaks of 25,18 and 16 while Botler knocked up a useful 18 - At the conclusion of the games, Mr Maconachy gave an exhibition of trick shots. . Mr Maoonachy's best break in billiards, is 1083, while at Auckland a few nights ago, he complied a useful 749.
